A brief history and summary of surfing in the Bahamas
Sept 3rd, 2007 -- Bahamian surfer and Guana Cay local Blake Sands recently captured first place in the Mens Am-division of the annual Pro-Am Surfing Festival benefiting the National Kidney Foundation of Florida, in Cocoa Beach, Florida. Each Labor Day weekend the National Kidney Foundation of Florida holds a Surfing Festival. It is the largest event of its kind in the world to benefit charity. This year marks the 21st anniversary.
Blake Sands Wins Division in FL Contest
October 2007 -- A planned leg of Quiksilver’s “Hurricane Chasers” mission, this trip took place in a single day. They’d hoped tropical storm Karen would strengthen and produce some solid surf but much to their surprise a strong low-pressure gradient moved off the Mid Atlantic and kicked up a solid north swell for the boys. Surfers on the trip included Quiksilver’s Ryan Helm, Skeeter Zimmerman, Tanner Strohmenger, and Matt Kechele; all born and raised Florida crackers.

Florida Pros Surf Big Atlantic Swell With Local Stars
March 2008 --Florida pros Travis Beckman, Pete Mendia and Matt Kechele descended on one of the islands in the Abacos to score clean, 6 to 8 foot barrels, along with local stars and brothers Joshua and Blake Sands.
